PICKING WEEDS IN GARDNER

We snapped McCabe Enterprises? Kathleen McCabe, who's wrapping up a nearly year-long consulting project with the City of Gardner to create an urban renewal and economic development plan. Once New England?s furniture manufacturing capital, the city fell on hard times as factories closed. Working with BSC Group, Mayor Gary Hawke, the city council, and the public, Kathleen put together a proposal to upgrade the center and the old industrial area with new roads, new and renovated buildings, and use public funding to leverage private investment. The goal: attract businesses and revive downtown as a live/work/play neighborhood. Kathleen says the city ?has good bones. It's a diamond in the rough.?
