LabCentral’s front door looks onto one of Cambridge’s larger life science projects: Novartis Pharmaceutical's $600M, 550k SF, three-building complex at 181 Mass Ave, on land leased from MIT (where its IT department was once located). Maya Lin—who designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial—created one of the pharma giant's new buildings. Also on the project team: Cannon Design, Toshiko Mori and landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh. Novartis relocated its research HQ here from Basel, Switzerland in '02 and expects to move into this complex next year. It's across the street from another building occupied by the company, which overall has 1.2M SF of labs and offices here.
