| Also on Thursday, in an event of decidedly different tone, Mayor Menino (the guy with the highest shovel), BU prez Robert Brown(on the Mayor's right), and BU med school dean Dr. Karen Antman held a groundbreaking for a $40M graduate residence for the BU Medical School. Designed by Beacon Architectural Associates, the building on the BUMC campus for 208 students has a traditional brick and limestone fa ade. (There's something comforting about your doc living in conventional quarters.) The 18-month project will generate 250 jobs and free up housing in the surrounding neighborhoods for households not part of the academic stronghold. The Mayor noted that it was one of several groundbreakings that he has officiated over in the last few weeks, showing that investors still like Boston despite the economic slowdown. |
