In and Out of Trouble

The upward trend in CRE paper going to special servicers is likely to bump along at more or less the same level for a while, says Holliday Fenoglio Fowler?s senior managing director Riaz Cassum. Depending on maturities schedules, Riaz expects to see some loans go in and out of special servicing as those borrowers who are able, recapitalize. Since Boston is very liquid for both debt and equity, Riaz says assets can often be injected with fresh capital in a way that avoids foreclosure. Also, with capital markets becoming healthier, there are more financing options.
