BOSTON: HOT, NOT SIZZLING

We're so used to hearing from East Coast experts that Boston metro is a hot multifamily market, we thought we?d gauge opinion from afar. Our Dallas reporter snapped Axiometrics? VP Jay Denton and prez Ron Johnsey, whose firm tracks multifamily projects nationwide. They say that Boston is hot, but not as hot as it has been in the past. Still a top US market, in July its annual effective rent growth was 8.7%, but in April it was 12.3% compared to Q4 ?00 when it was 16.9%. It has one of the best occupancy rates in the country, 96.5%, but in ?00 it averaged a more impressive 98.1% for the year. This fall, don't forget to set your clocks back 10 years.
