This morning, Mayor Walsh announced that Boston permitted 1,022 affordable housing units in 2015, the most since record keeping began 20 years ago. (Though it was before records, we suspect Plymouth Rock settlers had more affordable units because strict Puritanical values meant not spending money on amenities like game rooms.)
Boston sets aside more affordable housing than any other major city in the country–19% of units are reserved to help low and moderate income residents, reports the Bay State Banner.
Public investment in Boston affordable housing units hit $154M last year, combining federal, state, tax credit equity and city funding such as HOME, Inclusionary Development funds, Linkage.
