If the United States, Mexico and Canada win the right to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup with their joint bid, Baltimore could be in line to host some games.
That is, if the city's Board of Estimates votes as expected to approve a host city agreement as a required part of the FIFA process. The vote will be held on Wednesday, Baltimore Fishbowl reports. The bid would be irrevocable according to a required agreement between FIFA and the United Bid Committee for Baltimore.
The three North American countries are competing with Morocco for the 2026 soccer tournament, and if they were to win, the U.S. would host about 60 games while Canada and Mexico would each host 10. At least 12 cities would host games, and others would be home to public appearances and training camps.
Baltimore is one of 32 cities to have reached the second round of consideration to host games, along with potential local rivals Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford named M&T Bank Stadium as the city's venue of choice.
