A California-based company is shutting down its Atlanta operations, leaving a recently developed 300K SF warehouse dark and more than 300 workers without jobs.

Matheson Flight Extenders, a third-party sorting and shipping company that contracts with the U.S. Postal Service, plans to close its facility at 1970 Maple Ave. in the West Fulton Commerce Park, near the intersection of Camp Creek Parkway and Campbellton Road.
The planned closure, slated for Oct. 15, will affect 335 employees in Metro Atlanta, according to a notice filed with the Georgia Department of Labor.
Matheson subleases the building from GXO Logistics and plans to find a subtenant of its own to take the space, Matheson General Counsel Marcos Kropf told Bisnow.
“We’re going to continue under the lease, but we’re closing the facility,” Kropf said. “We’re going to market it for sure.”
Last year, Matheson filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection in California, citing assets and liabilities of between $10M and $50M each. Matheson subleased 1970 Maple and a warehouse in Maryland from GXO, and it owed the third-party logistics firm more than $36K, according to bankruptcy filings.
Crow Holdings Industrial developed the West Fulton Commerce Park in 2020 and later sold 1970 Maple to Clarion Partners, according to Avison Young. Colliers Atlanta is listed as the park’s leasing agent.
The space is coming into an industrial market that has seen a marked slowdown in activity this year. As developers continue to build more than 36M SF in Metro Atlanta as of the second quarter, tenants are also offering 3.2M SF in sublease warehouse space across the region, according to Lee & Associates.
