Amazon is dropping the curtains on its Fabric.com distribution hub in Kennesaw, affecting more than 200 employees.

The e-commerce retail giant filed plans with the Georgia Department of Labor to shutter its 200K SF fabric supply warehouse at 4190 Jiles Road in Kennesaw as of April 1, 2023.

The move means the company will be laying off 219 employees, although those workers have been offered “internal transfer opportunities” with Amazon, Amazon Director of Public Policy Jennie Massey wrote in a letter to the Labor Department obtained by Bisnow.

“As part of our regular business planning, we continually evaluate the progress and potential of our offerings and have made the decision to close Fabric.com,” Amazon spokesperson Betsy Harden told Bisnow via email. “We are focused on supporting our employees through this transition.”

Amazon purchased Fabric.com, one of the craft industry’s largest suppliers, in 2008. But vendors began to complain about slow payments earlier this year, Craft Industry Alliance reported. Amazon informed the company's employees in October that it planned to shutter its operations.

According to the letter, employees will be let go over various dates: Dec. 27 and 30, Jan. 29 and April 1. “Employee separations resulting from this action are expected to be permanent," Massey wrote in the letter.
