A nonprofit dedicated to finding employment for the blind has purchased a building in Queens for its new headquarters.

Alphapointe, a Kansas City, Missouri-based organization that partnered with New York City Industries for the Blind to create a presence in New York, purchased 87-46 123rd St. in the Richmond Hill neighborhood of Queens for $21.9M, the Commercial Observer reports.

The 138K SF building will provide offices, a call center, a manufacturing center for office and janitorial supplies, a sewing facility and a warehouse for the largest employer for the blind in the city. Currently, Alphapointe is leasing 100K SF at 3611 14th Ave. in Brooklyn's Borough Park.

Alphapointe will next month begin moving its 200 employees — 130 of whom are blind — to its new Queens space, on which the organization plans to spend $3M to $5M on renovations and improvements, such as appropriate signage, a modernized exterior and a sensory garden.
