What Should Google Do? (Take 3)

New York Office

Another idea for where Google can get the 600k SF it’s looking for in Manhattan. Cahn Capital president Stewart Cahn suggests doubling down on the real estate Google already owns, as in adding 1.5M SF on top of 111 Eighth (above), making it the largest building in NYC (though he acknowledges this would take a few years). No cost for the land, and surely the NYCEDC would bend over backward to help, considering the jobs and tax revenue such a move would bring, not to mention the jobs from other tech businesses that would feed off Google’s growth. Stewart says Google would have to prove hardship to get NYC Board of Standards & Appeals approval, which Google could achieve, considering its inability to take immediate occupancy of the leased space at 111 Eighth.
