Where will De Blasio Find 200,000 Affordable Apartment Units?

New York Multifamily

The mayor’s ambitious goal of 200,000 affordable housing units won't rise from a dramatic new idea but rather old-fashioned, roll-up-your-sleeves streamlining of the system. It may not be exciting, but panelists at Bisnow’s NYC Affordable Housing Summit this morning say it’s already working.

200 joined us at The Roosevelt Hotel to hear from government reps what the City is doing to preserve 120,000 units of affordable housing and create 80,000 more over 10 years. We also heard from private developers about what will work on the ground. It all adds up to more interaction among the City’s housing agencies, term modifications, more private dollars in the game, and rezonings that start with affordable housing rather than throwing it in as an afterthought. Check out tomorrow’s issue for full coverage of our event.
