Grand Hall Coming to Brooklyn Navy Yard

Brooklyn Navy Yard's 7,000 workers will finally have a gathering place. The 300-acre industrial park is receiving a 60k SF grand hall with a food court and communal space for employees and the public. Marvel Architects principal and founder John Marvel says the gateway is essentially connecting BLDG 77's two front yards, Crain's reports. Marvel plans a long public space with retail storefronts, occupied by food production tenants who will be able to sell out front and ship items out back. The existing red, blue and yellow pillars will stay, as will an original gantry for unloading cargo trains. Marvel also plans to add windows for natural light. The hall is expected to open in late 2016, around the time the BLDG-77 reno is slated to complete. [Crain's]
