Brooklyn's First Supertall Is All Systems Go

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has signed off on Brooklyn’s first supertall tower.

JDS Development’s 340 Flatbush Extension will combine a new 1,066-foot residential tower with the Dime Savings Bank building in Downtown Brooklyn, NY Yimby reports. The former bank, at 9 Dekalb Ave, has been landmarked since 1994.

The plan is for the massive tower’s ground-floor retail to straddle both buildings, requiring a modification to the 108-year-old structure. A restoration of the bank's marble, copper and windows will be part of the plan for the historic building.

The project, which has the support of Brooklyn Community Board 2, does not yet have a retail tenant signed on—which will be needed for the commission to approve the removal of teller stations on the floor of the former bank. [NYY]
