WTC TO RULE WAVES
One World Trade Center
Like a tall person who uses his height for great things (like getting us that box of cereal off the top shelf at the supermarket), One World Trade Center—which will soon stand as the Western Hemisphere’s tallest building at 1,776 feet—is planning to add broadcasting to its summit. (Pre-9/11, the North Tower featured a broadcast center.) An arrangement is now being finalized with the Port Authority in which The Durst Org would oversee construction and operation of a new,$7.4M state-of-the-art broadcast facility atop the tower, offering TV and FM radio broadcast capabilities. It will be marketed together with a broadcast tower atop Durst’s 4 Times Square, which together will serve as primary and back-up facilities for broadcast tenants. Upon completion, the broadcast center is projected to generate more than $10M annually.
