At times, it seemed LEED talk had reached ubiquity, but the recession curbed many large capital projects, and sustainability fell to the wayside. However, there's a renewed interest in such upgrades, as owners want to competitively set themselves apart, says CodeGreen Solutions managing director Christopher Cayten, who will be speaking at Bisnow's first annual Sustainability Summit on Aug. 12.

His firm has seen a marked increase in requests from owners wanting to achieve LEED or Energy Star certifications— sometimes both— in their portfolios, as tenants request green space. Landlords are also taking a holistic look at green operations in conjunction with energy efficiency measures.
