DOLLOP OF DAISY
Sculpture on top of 305 W 16, New York, NY
What’s that being installed on top of the 305 W 16? Spring is coming a little early to NYC, thanks to a 34-foot-high stainless steel mosaic daisy sculpture named “Perhaps” that has bloomed on top of the new Chelsea residential development project. Owner Centaur Properties principal Harlan Berger, an avid art enthusiast, first saw “Perhaps” at the 2006 Burning Man Festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert(that sounds like an interesting story itself, but perhaps another day), and was moved to purchase the sculpture from artist Robert Buchholz. Robert is the lead designer and principal of Robert James, a construction and management company that specializes in the design and construction of commercial, residential, event, and civic art. The sculpture weighs over 2.5 tons, and at the center of each of the three flowers is a 500W metal halide spotlight, which will illuminate the project at night.
