A CUCUMBER GROWS IN MANHATTAN
Riverpark Farm
One of NYC’s 600-plus stalled construction sites has found new purpose: a farm. Yes, veggies growing in Manhattan. Riverpark, a restaurant in the Alexandria Center for Life Science, took over the stalled site of Alexandria Center’s 1.1M SF west tower at 430 E 29th St and turned it into a 15k SF farm to grow its own produce. (That’s over 6,000 plants, including 100 different types of vegetables, herbs, and flowers.) When construction on the tower resumes, Riverpark Farm (portable soil-filled milk crates) will be relocated to another part of the four-acre campus. The farm, to be unveiled in September, was developed through a partnership with Alexandria Real Estate Equities and designed by ORE Design and Technology.
