Uber Is Retreating From Hungary

Placeholder

Uber is suspending its business in Hungary in response to legislation that makes it impossible for the company to operate.

Hungary’s parliament recently enacted a measure that allows the Hungarian national communications authority to block internet access to “illegal dispatcher services” and also threatens to take away Uber driver's licenses for up to three years, Business Insider reports.

The law comes after months of protests by taxi drivers who say Uber drivers are in breach of numerous regulations, as well as bans on Uber in other cities. Uber says it hopes to be back in Hungary in the future, but as of now it’s pulling out on July 24. [BI]
