Retail App Tracks and Helps Shoppers

How many times have you shopped for a TV in a store, then ordered it online? It’s the “showrooming” problem in the retail industry, and Reston, Va.-based Siteworx thinks its new app, Concierge—based on Bluetooth, low-energy technology—may be the solution. CEO Tim McLaughlin (middle) says it gives in-store shoppers the detailed info and reviews about a product that they normally would look for online after shopping in the store. The app uses beacon technology for proximity detection to pull up product info based on where the shopper is standing in the store. It also lets retailers get analytical information about what customers are looking at before buying a product (or not). Tim spent the last week demo’ing the app at the Adobe Summit in Salt Lake City and plans to continue marketing it to major retailers. (Tim also accepted the Digital Marketing North American Regional Partner of the Year award at the summit.)
