US Investors Scared Of Brexit—Less So Of Rate Hike Or Election

Placeholder

Investors in the US aren’t keen on a rate hike, and some are worried about possible market turmoil caused by the presidential elections, but far more are stressing about a possible UK exodus from the EU.

That’s according to Goldman Sachs, whose analysts say options in the S&P 500 are pricing in more risk around the UK leaving the EU than the Fed’s interest rate decision this week, Bloomberg reports. Of course, it’s also possible there is simply less volatility surrounding the Fed’s June decision because people don’t expect rates to rise.

But either way, markets are volatile. Bloomberg projections say there is a 24% chance of a Brexit and the CBOE Volatility Index recently rose to its highest level since late February. [Bloomberg]
