Walmart Struggles To Win Price War Against Aldi, Kroger

Placeholder

Walmart launched a price test in 1,200 stores to try and win the price war against grocers like Aldi and Kroger.

With the test, conducted across 11 Southeastern and Midwestern states, Walmart hopes to find prices that attract shoppers who might otherwise go to competitors, Reuters reports. Analysts recently estimated Walmart’s prices are often 20% higher than Aldi on basic groceries.

Considering groceries make up 56% of Walmart’s revenue, winning the price war is critical for the firm to stay competitive. While Walmart has been lowering its prices, according to Reuters shop checks, experts said the arrival of yet another German discount store this year poses a real threat.
