Retailers Fight To Capture As Many Shoppers As Possible Before Christmas

Christmas is only two days away and retailers are fighting to get every sale they can, offering deep discounts, in-store pickup and anything else they can think of to capture procrastinating shoppers.

Brick-and-mortar retailers are exploiting the rare advantage they have over Amazon—it’s largely too late for items ordered online to arrive by Christmas—and everyone from Walmart to Macy’s and Kohl’s is keeping stores open through Christmas Eve and speeding up shipments to restock popular items, the Wall Street Journal reports. But Amazon isn’t giving up easily—the firm’s Prime Now service is taking orders as late as 9:54 pm on Christmas Eve in some markets and promising to make deliveries by midnight.

It’s important for retailers to capture as many sales as they can before Christmas; they’ve already lost more business to Amazon this year than in any prior year. [WSJ]
