Here’s Why Suburban Offices Are Being Left Vacant

Employers are chasing Millennials to the cities in their bid to find the best employees, leaving behind their old suburban digs behind. The latest news of suburban exodus was GE’s move to Boston from Fairfield, CT, a shift Boston officials hope will make the city a hotspot for tech innovation. Now smaller towns are fighting over how to use the property left behind, the Wall Street Journal reports.

In Upper Saddle River, NJ (8,000 residents), a landlord wants to turn the town's 470k SF abandoned office building into a mixed-use plot. Residents, however, are worried that apartments will overpopulate the area, especially now that job-producing businesses have left. [WSJ]
