WeWork co-founders CEO Adam Neumann (pictured) and Miguel McKelvey have joined the ranks of Forbes’ billionaires this year with their company’s rapid rise to prominence.

The pair grew up in community environments, Neumann on a kibbutz and McKelvey in the Pacific Northwest on a type of commune, and have a lifelong fascination with how community forms around working and living spaces—hence their mammoth co-working company, Forbes reports.

Others seem to be buying into the community workspace as well—WeWork has hit a $16B valuation since its start in early 2010.

The company is also expanding beyond office space, officially opening WeLive, its co-living concept, on Monday. [Forbes]
