A technology company is teaming up with a multifamily developer to bring air filtration into tens of thousands of units in the West.

Real estate wellness technology company Delos forged a deal with MultiGreen Properties to integrate Delos’ DARWIN Home Wellness Intelligence Network into 40,000 new units in Nevada, Washington and New Mexico. DARWIN includes an air purification system that filters out particles including allergens, pathogens and toxins — including the coronavirus, Delos says.

“DARWIN brings the benefits of the outside conditions inside,” Delos CEO Paul Scialla told Bisnow in an interview Thursday. It also includes a water purification system and controls temperature and lighting.

The air purification system can capture particles as small as 0.007 microns at 99.99% efficiency, Scialla said, while the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 ranges from 0.06 to 0.14 microns.

MultiGreen Properties is a Nevada-based, sustainability-focused multifamily developer.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I believe that we owe it to our tenants to deliver solutions like Delos’ DARWIN system that will help make their home a healthier place to live,” MultiGreen founder Randy Norton said.

Though this partnership was in the works before the coronavirus hit, air filtration systems are taking hold in a new way around the country in light of the pandemic. In New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that malls would not be allowed to reopen until they installed air filtration systems that could eliminate the virus.

Delos’ technology can be applied to other commercial spaces, and the company is in talks with schools and corporations to install the system, Scialla said.
