Airbnb's Compromise With New Orleans Officials Could Serve As Template For The Future

After a year of tough legal battles, Airbnb’s recent compromise with New Orleans could set a precedent.

New Orleans officials say Airbnb agreed to share data, including the names and addresses of its hosts, with the city in exchange for the legalization of short-term rentals, the New York Times reports. Airbnb also agreed its hosts need to operate with a permit, a concession the firm has fought elsewhere.

Beyond appeasing local authorities, Airbnb took a step towards making peace with the New Orleans hotel industry, banning nearly all listings in the historic French Quarter. Lawmakers are hopeful Airbnb will be open to making these types of compromises elsewhere. [NYT]
