CEO Survey Finds Renewed Optimism in Sales, But Hiring Stalls

A Business Roundtable survey of American CEOs showed confidence regarding the six-month sales outlook at a three-year high and overall improvement from the 4Q14 survey. The executives polled also predicted 2.8% GDP growth this year. That figure, while below broader polls of US economists, outpaces the 2.4% growth predicted in last quarter's survey. Nearly half of those polled planned to boost spending over the next six months. All told, the CEOs forecast investment growth of 9.2 points on the index and sales improvement of 7.4 points. Hiring improvement lagged, with predictions of 0.4 point growth.
