Harriet Tubman To Replace Andrew Jackson On The $20 Bill

After much talk of removing Alexander Hamilton from the $10 bill, the Treasury Department decided Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson as the face of the $20 note.

It seems fitting that the Underground Railroad conductor will replace Jackson, a slave owner who spearheaded the Trail of Tears forced Native American migration.

Other bills won’t get by completely unchanged—redesigns of the $5, $10 and $20 bills will be announced in 2020, with female suffragists being added to the $10, and civil rights icons on the $5, Politico reports.

Candidates under consideration for the title of first woman on modern US currency included civil rights icon Rosa Parks, former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and suffragist Susan B. Anthony, before the famed abolitionist won out. [Forbes]
