James Walker has joined the executive management team at American Real Estate Partners.

Walker has been named COO of the DC-based private real estate investment company. AREP invests in markets with a focus on acquiring Class-A offices, office flex assets, and real estate-related financial instruments along the East Coast. The firm's current portfolio spans 8.1M SF

Prior to joining AREP, the 25-year industry vet was a senior transactional executive at Prudential Real Estate Investors, where he held several leadership roles, including head of debt capital markets. In his new role, Walker will take the reins for the implementation of AREP’s strategy and operations.

Walker joins a company that was involved in some of the larger acquisitions in the DC area in 2015. Last July, the company picked up the Rosslyn Metro Center, a 409k SF office building connected directly to the Metro station, for $180M. The company closed out 2015 with another huge acquisition when it teamed up with Davidson Kempner Capital Management to acquire the 130-acre Verizon Campus in Ashburn for $212.5M.
