Bisnow: Why did you take this job at Bisnow?

Karp: Throughout college, I always had a strong interest in real estate. During this time, I got my license to sell real estate in New York and also sought out various internships in the industry. These experiences gave me that initial exposure and helped shape my image of what the industry is about and the types of people who work in it.

When applying for a job, one thing that was important for me was the company culture. I was lucky enough to interview in person prior to the pandemic, so I got to see the infectious energy within the office. I felt very comfortable in the environment — many people were around my age, and instead of pantsuits and cubicles, I saw people interacting with one another, with music playing in the office. Throughout the interview process, I didn’t feel like people were just putting on a show; it felt very genuine.

Currently, I work within the New York, New Jersey and Boston markets, but during my first year with Bisnow I worked on the California team in both NorCal and SoCal as well as the Pacific Northwest team. When I switched over to the New York team I felt my relationships with my clients grow and deepen exponentially. I could speak more to what’s going on in the market and meet clients in person at events, which is a priority for me.

Bisnow: What about commercial real estate interests you?

Karp: I like that commercial real estate encompasses so many different facets of the real estate industry. One day I may be speaking with a broker or owner, the next with a lender or lawyer. I’ve been especially taken with the life sciences sector. Before Bisnow, I didn’t know much about the market, but I’ve gotten to learn more about the key players and major developments in the sector through conversations with my clients and industry research.

Bisnow: What makes you unique?

Karp: I am a huge foodie; I love baking, and I’m always exploring the newest restaurants to try. I also love live music, whether it’s a big concert or a small dive bar. In New York, it’s easy to access these opportunities and I love taking advantage of all the city has to offer.

I also lived in Sydney, Australia, for five months during college, which was an eye-opening experience. Traveling has broadened my horizons and introduced me to new experiences, cultures and opportunities that have helped shape who I am today.
