Cushman Names New Retail Head

Cushman & Wakefield has announced that Gene Spiegelman (above left) will lead the firm's North American Retail Service Group. Spiegelman, a 15-year C&W veteran, was named among its top retail producers in 2004,2005, 2007, 2008 and 2011. The announcement comes one month after C&W's parent company, Exor, reported that global retail leasing had surged 30% in the first three quarters compared to the comparable period in 2013. By comparison, office leasing revenue spiked 13% in that period.

Spiegelman, who's based in Manhattan, will work alongside John Strachan, Mark Burlton and Justin Taylor in his new management-centric role. The current vice chairman's career highlights include:

  • Bringing Crate & Barrel to a 48K SF store in 2002 at 611 Broadway, a prime location bordering Soho.
  • Aiding Gucci in a sublease to Diesel at 685 Fifth Avenue in 2008.
  • Landing the UK company Primark at Boston's Downtown Crossing this year with a 112K SF lease and the tenant's first US location.
