24-Hour CVS Headed to Downtown LA Next to Whole Foods

Construction is underway on another CVS drugstore at the intersection of W 8th Street and Grand Avenue in Downtown LA.

The store will be open 24 hours a day if a conditional-use permit can be secured to allow around-the-clock business operations. Last year, a CVS also opened at 7th and Spring streets in the Historic Core.

Located in South Park across the street from the Whole Foods in Carmel's new residential tower, the 14,500 SF store is next door to the 49-unit South Park Lofts, according to Brigham Yen.

It will occupy the entire ground level of a new five-level parking garage being developed by locally based L&R, a large national parking lot operator. The parking garage will provide 260 parking stalls, with 36 spaces reserved for CVS customers.

The design calls for windows lining the storefront along 8th and Grand, allowing pedestrians to see inside. The main entrance is angled on the corner of 8th and Grand to create a pedestrian connection from both streets and high visibility from the Whole Foods across the street.

L&R plans to use modern-style panels on the garage exterior similar to the facade on its parking structure at 8th and Francisco (pictured). The new parking garage will be completed in October 2016, then CVS will begin building out the ground floor, with the store's opening planned in August 2017. [BY
