Topaz Art Unveiling

Los Angeles Other

His artwork may bring flashbacks of head shops and black light posters, but last week, it was an office building in San Pedro that made a home for one of John Van Hamersveld's colorful canvases. The piece was unveiled during an evening reception at Topaz, Jupiter Holdings' 11-story, 293k SF office building on the waterfront in San Pedro. The graphic artist, flanked by CBRE's Timothy Vaughan and Jupiter Holdings' Ed St. Geme, is best known for his Endless Summer movie poster, as well as album covers for The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Blue Cheer, and Blondie.

The canvas, which stands 20 feet high and 10 feet wide, is displayed in the building's grand lobby. Jupiter, which acquired Topaz in December 2012, commissioned the piece to reflect SoCal's surf culture and to connect with San Pedro's vibrant arts scene. The private investment firm worked with the San Pedro Art Association to secure this and other exhibits by local artists.
