Big Project May Be Headed For Hawthorne

Marriott appears to be taking an interest in Hawthorne.

The Hawthorne City Council has given approval to begin talks with Marriott and Mogul Capital about a complex with two hotels on land at Hawthorne Boulevard and 126th Street next to Hawthorne's City Hall.

Both developers Mogul Capital and Marriott had previously presented financing and tentative designs for the project, according to the Daily Breeze.

It would be the biggest commercial development in about a decade in downtown Hawthorne.

City leaders have been trying to bring new businesses to town as a way to rev up the city's tax base given its $6M budget deficit.

If the deal is approved, the complex could open by mid-2018. [DB]
