Aecom plans to acquire Oakland's Shimmick Construction for $175M with an aim of making an impact on the entire West Coast.

The purchase will take advantage of nearly $180M in ballot measures approved by voters in the western U.S., including Los Angeles' Measure M to expand local transit, the LA Times reports.

Aecom hopes to win contracts such as those related to California's approved $52B transportation package.

The Metro Orange Line, the new Gerald Desmond Bridge in Long Beach and repair work on the Golden Gate Bridge are among some of Shimmick Construction's projects.

Aecom has operations in more than 150 countries and is working on the new NFL stadium in Inglewood.

The deal is expected to close by the end of September.
