Los Angeles

Today, we bring you the third installment of our seven-part Power Women series profiling the 60 most influential women in LA commercial real estate (see Part 1 and Part 2). Then join Bisnow and partner Allen Matkins on Nov. 12 for a cocktail awards reception to honor them at the Hotel Casa del Mar, 6-8pm.

Patti Gilbert worked as a stockbroker at Bear Stearns until she became tired of begging people to buy 100 shares of IBM during their dinner. There, she was introduced to commercial real estate when the firm launched its real estate practice. “The only prerequisite was that I could use a computer… told ‘em I’d give it a try,” she says. She then landed as a financial analyst at Cushman Realty Corp, working her way up to a senior brokerage position, then Hines, Arden, and finally CBRE, where she’s been a key team member on the JP Morgan account for 10 years, overseeing over 4.5M SF on LA’s West Side (including the Century Park and Water Garden projects). Among notable deals the team has recently closed: Cox Castle & Nicholson, AMC Networks, A&E Networks, and Merrill Lynch. What young women need to remember: “Character first—it takes years to build a reputation and seconds to destroy it,” she says. Patti not only works hard, but plays hard: She’s a diver, skier, hiker, fly fisherman, and cyclist. She's also a board member for the Los Angeles Commercial Real Estate Association and Affordable Living for the Aging.
