Nissan will start testing its electric self-driving cars in London next month, kicking off its first European trials on public roads, Reuters reported.

Nissan began self-driving trials in the U.S. in October on public roads, demonstrating its autonomous drive capabilities that are intended to be installed in production vehicles in 2020.

Piloted Drive has a single-lane, highway-only version that will be included on Nissan vehicles set for a European release next year.

The UK government said it wants to encourage the development and testing of autonomous driving technology in Britain, an industry worth an estimated £900B by 2025. [Reuters]
