The Mandarin Oriental in London will begin renovations on Sept. 19, the first revamp since the hotel opened in 2000.

The Knightsbridge hotel will remain open throughout the work, which will take places in two phases over 18 months.

The project will comprise a full renovation of all of the existing guest rooms and suites. In addition, the hotel’s entrance, lobby and reception areas will be redesigned to maximize natural daylight. The Rosebery coffee lounge and Bar Boulud restaurant will be refreshed by next spring. Additionally, two penthouses will be added to the ninth floor.

Event spaces and guest rooms facing Hyde Park will be made over in Phase 2 of the renovation. In June, the spa will close so it can be expanded to include couples’ facilities and an exclusive Mandarin Oriental Spa Studio concept, offering express beauty and grooming treatments for both men and women.
