European Union Approves Marriott-Starwood Merger

Placeholder

The EU has given its blessing for Marriott to acquire Starwood. (That's the JW Marriott in Venice shown above). The deal required EU approval to ensure the hotel sector remained competitive for customers in Europe.

The closing is still subject to obtaining additional antitrust clearances, but the EU’s approval marks the satisfaction of a major closing condition.

Until the deal closes, however, both companies will continue to operate as independent entities. Final closing is expected in July.
