After 16 years of operation, Walter's Downtown, an eclectic music venue north of Downtown, announced its last day of operation will be Feb. 4. The owner, Zachary Palmer, made the announcement on the venue's Facebook page. In the post, Palmer said the news came unexpectedly and the venue is still adjusting. Until 2012, Walter's Downtown was known as Walter's On Washington. Not long after the bar's original owner died in 2014, the venue began to have issues with property taxes. Fans raised money to keep the venue in business with an online campaign, the Houston Chronicle reports. Deep End Records, which has done business out of Walter's Downtown since 2015, will be moving to Insomnia Gallery at 708 Telephone Road.
