H-E-B has signed a lease at the southeast corner of Washington Avenue and Heights Boulevard. The location will be part of a larger mixed-use development, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Plans are for 91k SF of grocery-anchored retail space on the first level and 7k SF on the second. Plans for the complex also include 2k SF of street-level retail, 35k SF of office, 262k SF of multifamily space and 287k SF of parking.

Rumors of H-E-B making a move in the neighborhood have been swirling for months. As grocery competition heats up even further across the Houston MSA, H-E-B's latest move in Washington comes as a one-two punch with its recent groundbreaking in Baytown. H-E-B doesn't want to stop there: In an interview with the Chronicle, H-E-B’s Houston division president, Scott McClelland, said the company would like to have locations on Washington Avenue, in Garden Oaks and in the Heights. [Chron]
