TxDOT Proposes New Express Lanes To Ease Galleria Traffic

The Texas Department of Transportation will propose some radical new safety and traffic easement measures in its public meeting on Dec. 10.

The proposals include raising express lanes in the center of the 610 Loop from I-10 to US59 for nearly four miles, according to the Houston Business Journal. The department says the improvements will loosen traffic and increase safety around the Galleria. The lanes may be tolled.

Houston is home to the state's worst traffic, according to a recent study from TxDOT (and every person who has ever driven near the Galleria, ever).

The 610 Loop at the Galleria was ranked the second-most-congested spot in the state, where drivers lose a total of 971,985 hours per year waiting in traffic.

The TxDOT meeting is slated for Dec. 10 at 5:30pm at the Junior League of Houston, 1811 Briar Oaks Ln. [HBJ]
