NRG Land Auction

A good old-fashioned Texas land auction is set to kick off next month. NRG Energy will be auctioning off nearly 10,000 acres of ranch and farmland on Nov. 14 at the Hart-Morris Conservation Center in Athens. The auction will include an additional 1,900 acres owned by a ranching family. The acreage will be offered in 16 tracts and combinations, all within two hours of Dallas or Houston, southwest of Athens in Malakoff.

The property was originally assembled by North American Coal Co. and Houston Lighting and Power in the mid-1980s as a combined coal mine and coal generation plant.

The land includes over 2,500 acres of tillable farmland, hardwood timberland and hardwood river bottom land in addition to highway, paved county and gravel road frontage roads. Small tracts are available for commercial and residential development, starting at 1.2 acres.
