International Construction & Infrastructure Firm Closes Houston Office Citing Market Conditions

Placeholder

Balfour Beatty will shutter its Houston office next week. The office will close "based on current market conditions," a spokesperson told the Houston Business Journal. The decision comes just weeks after the firm completed construction of the 1,000-room Marriott Marquis. None of the Houston projects the firm has lined up through 2018 will be affected by the closure, but they will be handled by Balfour Beatty's Dallas management team after Houston leadership's last day on Jan. 31. Around 15 of the company's 93 Houston employees took positions in Dallas or Austin.

Balfour Beatty has three ongoing projects in Houston:

  • Lone Star College Kingwood's 40k SF Process Technology Center.
  • HISD's $40M High School For Law And Justice.
  • Memorial Hermann's TMC expansion, adding 1.3M SF and 160 beds. [HBJ]
