Remarks Throughout the Day

Why You Can't Miss this Marquee Washington D.C. Commercial Real Estate Event

What You'll Learn:

  • Goodbye Fannie Mae, hello Washington Post and Sullivan & Cromwell: what today's tenant decisions say about overarching office trends in and around D.C.
  • Live, work (remote), play: Learn how mixed-use neighborhoods are creating new opportunities for development and a sense of place throughout the District.
  • The elephant in the room: Learn how the CRE community overall can help reinvigorate Downtown D.C., mainly through the Mayor's new Gallery Place/Chinatown Task Force.
  • New investors, new tactics: Meet D.C.'s latest buyers of distressed offices and what they plan to do with their recent acquisitions.
  • The role of universities: From colleges occupying office space to Georgetown's interest in new housing close to Union Station, learn how and why education systems choose to take up space in Washington, D.C.
  • Slowed but steady: Learn about the new developments in the pipeline throughout D.C. and what challenges developers are facing to complete their projects.

Why This Matters: Despite President Biden's call for federal workers to return to the office, Washington D.C. remains at an impasse as the government tussles with the problem of RTO. While the winter months have chilled foot traffic in the early parts of the year, CBRE reports that office occupancy in the District is at 39.7% — dropping off due to the holidays after reaching its highest level since 2020 in November of 2023 (at approximately 50%). Metro weekday rail ridership, despite seeing a decline, is still 21% higher than December 2022 ridership. Other sectors - including hospitality and retail — mirror similar optimistic trends, with hotel occupancy in Greater Washington continuing to trend higher for a third consecutive year.

Yet, with pedestrian activity in Downtown D.C. remaining close to 25% below pre-pandemic levels, the recovery many hope to see is still a way off. Join Bisnow for our annual Washington D.C. State of the Market to discuss how the greater CRE community can unite to breathe new activations and opportunities in and around the District through new mixed-use activations, live-work-play destinations, and strategic investment despite today's economic challenges.

Who You'll Meet: D.C.'s top owners, developers, investors, researchers, public officials, tenants, and more!
