Kari is an interior designer specializing in healthcare facilities. She has designed projects for leading healthcare systems across the Puget Sound region and beyond. Kari’s work seeks to improve the healthcare experience by creating soothing, supportive environments that provide patients, families, and staff members with moments of joy to facilitate healing. With a focus on understanding each client’s unique culture and each project’s challenges and needs, Kari participates in user group interviews, visioning sessions, observations, and shadowing, which ultimately lead to innovative solutions that balance users’ requirements with the community context while bringing the therapeutic elements of nature to patients and staff inside.

Gary S. Kaplan, MD, FACP, FACMPE, FACPE, has served as chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason Health System in Seattle since 2000. He is also a practicing, board-certified internal medicine physician at Virginia Mason.

He is chair of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Board of Directors and the chairman of the Lucian Leape Institute. He is also the immediate past chair of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine in 2013.

Dr. Kaplan is also: (1) A founding member of Health CEOs for Health Reform. (2) A member of the National Patient Safety Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Kaplan received a degree in medicine from the University Michigan Medical School. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the American College of Medical Practice Executives (FACMPE) and the American College of Physician Executives (FACPE).

With Dr. Kaplan’s leadership, in 2002 Virginia Mason became the first health system in the United States to adapt the principles of the Toyota Production System as its management methodology for identifying and eliminating waste, improving quality and safety, and controlling cost. Using tools and resources of the Virginia Mason Production System, Virginia Mason has earned international recognition for innovation, quality, safety and efficiency. In 2010, Virginia Mason was named a Top Hospital of the Decade by The Leapfrog Group, a national non-profit organization representing employers and other large purchasers of health care that are driving improvements in quality, safety and transparency.

Dr. Kaplan has been on Modern Healthcare magazine’s annual list of the “50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders in Healthcare” for ten consecutive years. He is ranked No. 10 on the 2015 list.

David has been an innovator in healthcare architecture for over 20 years and is recognized as an expert on healthcare design both nationally and throughout the region. He received specialized training on LEAN Healthcare and Design while collaborating with Virginia Mason Medical Center - and applies those principles in his practice.

David focuses on designs that transform the physical architecture of a building into a tool that assists in the healing and wellbeing of patients and their families. These spaces become a place where humanity rises over regulations and technology, allowing all users to experience human dignity. David’s experience ranges from challenging remodels to the $266 million MultiCare Good Samaritan Dally Patient Care Tower. This project was granted the Vista Award—an honor granted annually to a single project team by the American Society of Healthcare Engineers.

Driven by a steadfast commitment to the next generation of healthcare designers, David initiated and led regional healthcare design activities i-guiding the efforts of the AIA’s Academy of Architecture for Health. In 2018, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) announced David Frum was one of six AIA Seattle members to be elevated into its prestigious College of Fellows—an honor reserved for a mere 3% of AIA members of the AIA.

Rhonda has been devoted to healthcare design solutions for over 20 years with clients from across the country. Beginning her career in Louisville, Kentucky, leading healthcare projects with such clients as Norton Healthcare and Children’s Hospitals across multiple states, she has become an expert in bringing together design, technology, and real estate to help clients deliver optimal care while achieving their business goals. Today, Rhonda is the Director of Workspace Consulting for OpenSquare, leading a specialized team and the strategic vision for the health and wellness division. She has consulted with nearly all major healthcare providers in the region, including Kaiser Permanente, Providence St. Joseph Health, Evergreen Healthcare, Swedish, Virginia Mason, UW Medical Center, and many others. She is also a trusted advisor for multiple healthcare best practice groups.

Kurt Kruckeberg provides healthcare real estate legal services to for-profit and nonprofit hospital systems and significant providers of healthcare services across the Pacific Northwest. Kurt often works on complex healthcare development projects involving leasing, construction, and real estate finance. Kurt also helps healthcare companies navigate significant real estate goals, including acquisitions, dispositions, and developing major real estate portfolios. Kurt keeps clients up-to-date on matters that may affect their plans or operations by closely following real estate and business trends in our region.

Tom is HDR’s Design Director for Sustainability and a Design Principal in the

Seattle studio. He actively leads the design direction of projects and the

advancement of low-carbon solutions, using HDR’s Regenerative Design

Framework to restore ecological and human wellbeing. His current mass timber

projects on the U.S. West Coast use HDR’s carbon-balancing methodology,

targeting net-zero emitted carbon on day-one for structure, core, and shell. Tom’s

on-going and completed health projects highlight the importance of placemaking

and experience design within a healing environment. Tom earned a master’s

degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and is a recipient of over 25

design awards. He was the design leader for an all-volunteer team for the U.S.

Green Building Council's LEED Platinum Children’s Center in Port-au-Prince,

Haiti.

Jaime brings 25 years of industry experience to her role as Senior Vice President of Healthcare Development, where she oversees development, market growth and strategy for Ryan healthcare in the Western Division. She collaborates with health systems, physician groups, owners and operators to develop new and repurposed healthcare facilities. She facilitates growth strategies through real estate acquisitions, development, creative capital solutions and building services. A proven leader with comprehensive and diversified industry perspective, Jaime provides creative approaches to identifying reasonable and attainable solutions. Using detailed analyses, research, critical thinking and problem solving, she identifies the most efficient and effective means to achieve the desired result for all parties involved.

Will Frame, senior vice president and shareholder, specializes in office sales and leasing in the Puget Sound region. Elliott Sellers is a Vice President of Investments & Partner with Anchor Health Properties and serves an integral role in the management of real estate acquisition and development investments. He brings more than five years of healthcare real estate experience overseeing more than $1 billion of closed investments to date. A key member of the Investments team and an active member in the healthcare real estate sector, Mr. Sellers leads business development efforts for the Mid Atlantic, Southeast, Southern California, and Pacific Northwest regions through which he has overseen the acquisition of more than 2.5 million square feet of healthcare real estate investments to-date. As head of the Company’s Washington, DC office, Mr. Sellers provides leadership and guidance to the investment and development platform through sourcing and screening real estate investment opportunities and providing recommendations to institutional equity partners.

A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) charterholder since 2020, he brings a diverse finance knowledge which can be applied to real estate investments and assisting the Company’s clients with complex corporate finance challenges.

Bill Cox is the Senior Director of Planning & Growth for Microsoft’s Healthcare business. He co-founded Microsoft’s Health Next team in 2016 to create an applied research organization focused on innovation at the intersection of healthcare and technology, and has helped grow that organization and Microsoft’s health investment through its recent $19 billion acquisition of Nuance Communications. In addition to other leadership roles at Microsoft in corporate strategy and marketing, Bill has served in several leadership positions at Silicon Valley software companies, including Vice President of Corporate Communications at Informatica, and Director of Strategic Marketing at PeopleSoft.

Brad Hinthorne is a Principal with the 120-person Seattle office of leading global architecture and design firm Perkins+Will. Brad brings nearly three decades of experience with complex urban projects, including leadership roles on master planning, programming and design efforts for a diversity of public and private clients across a variety of practice areas including healthcare, higher education, corporate, commercial and civic. In addition to his management and leadership responsibilities, Brad heads Perkins+Will’s healthcare practice in Seattle, including serving as Managing Principal for the Swedish First Hill Expansion, one of the largest healthcare expansion projects in the country.

Michael Rechnitz is a Project Executive with Clark Construction and leads their Pacific Northwest Healthcare practice. As a 20-year veteran of construction in the healthcare industry, Michael is responsible for leading large teams to deliver complex projects. He enjoys working with large stakeholder groups, including patients, their families, and caregivers, to deliver optimized care models and the details of design and construction that allow caregivers to spend more time at the patient bedside. Recent projects include the University of Washington Behavioral Health Teaching Hospital at the Northwest campus and the new Forensic Hospital at Western State Hospital. He is also an expert in design-build delivery having won multiple National DBIA awards for process and partnering. Michael serves on the board of many non-profit groups in Greater Seattle.

Carl Hampson, AIA is an architect and design principal with SRG Partnership based in Portland, Oregon, and a nationally recognized thought leader in the design and planning of behavioral health facilities. His innovative work includes the University of Arizona Behavioral Health Pavilion + Crisis Response Center and the Arizona State Forensic Psychiatric Hospital, and he is currently leading the design for the University of Washington’s New Behavioral Health Teaching Facility. His work has earned numerous accolades, including National AIA Design awards and multiple regional AIA and industry honors, and he has been featured in a variety of publications. Carl has authored multiple articles on behavioral health planning and design and maintains a connection to the clinical community through engagement at conferences and ongoing continuing education. He is a licensed architect in Oregon and California and a seasoned lecturer and guest critic.

Kyle Raschkow has been in the construction industry since 1996 and brings expertise in healthcare construction. After earning a dual degree in Construction Management and Business Administration from Washington State University, he built a diverse portfolio of projects including healthcare, critical environments, corporate office, and retail facilities. Kyle believes in a project-first mentality and team accountability that allows our clients to depend on us.

Brian MacRae is a Vice President at Thornton Tomasetti and co-leader of the Seattle office. He brings over 17 years of experience leading project teams on large-scale projects in the Pacific Northwest in a variety of market sectors including healthcare, K-12, residential, commercial, and higher education. As a structural engineer, Brian enjoys working collaboratively with stakeholders and clients to develop creative and efficient solutions that support the overall programming and design of his projects. His healthcare design experience includes work on multiple campuses in the region including EvergreenHealth in Kirkland, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and more recently he is leading the structural design for the University of Washington Behavioral Health Teaching Facility.

Tom Sebastian is the president and CEO of Compass Health, Northwest Washington’s behavioral

healthcare leader. Throughout his 35-year career, Tom has held many clinical and leadership roles at the

organization, growing its transformational impact through community partnerships, outreach and

advocacy.
