Denver is one of the 10 busiest markets in the nation for hotel development in May, according to a new report by STR. The city ranks No. 7, ahead of the likes of Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. There are 4,872 hotel rooms underway in metro Denver, fully 64.3% more than during May last year, when 2,966 rooms were underway.

Only New York, Dallas, LA, Nashville, Seattle and Houston had more rooms under construction than Denver in May, according to STR. New York is the leader over every other market by a large margin, with 15,473 rooms under construction, but that is only an increase of 1.8% compared with last year.

In terms of percentage increase in hotel room construction year-over-year, Denver's growth is No. 3 on the list. Nashville has 134.3% more rooms under construction than in May 2016, and Seattle is up 80.6%.
