In-migration to Denver has been at a record pace, driving residential rents and office space absorption, but the flip side of that metric is that people leave Denver, too. And when they go, the No. 1 choice for relocation is Chicago, according to a new report by Redfin.

The Redfin Migration Report analyzed a sample of more than 1 million Redfin.com users searching for homes across 75 metro areas from April through June.

There were some unsurprising findings: People really want to get away from San Francisco and its stratospheric rents, with the city ranking No. 1 among the cities people want to leave. Top choices for relocating San Franciscans: Sacramento and Seattle.

Denver was No. 6 among the cities people are most looking to leave, right behind Chicago. The top destination for Chicagoans looking to move? Los Angeles, which itself is No. 3 on the list, and is exporting people to San Diego and Las Vegas.

Not to worry about Chicago. Even as people want to leave, it is the top choice among potential movers from Detroit, Milwaukee and Dayton, Ohio, as well as Denver.
