EDUCATING THE YOUNG

EDUCATING THE YOUNG
Hill Middle School students
A group of Hill  Middle School students in the Thriving Minds after-school program are getting a taste of the CRE world, using hands-on experience. The DISD school recently toured the Dallas Center for Architecture (pictured) as part of the program, developed by Big Thought and supported by The Real Estate Council  and TREC Foundation. TREC is providing professional assistance as well as a $50k grant for the program’s career and workforce readiness component, which engages students in interactive activities similar to what real estate professionals do. One session focuses on how to read maps and understand why cities are laid out the way they are, such as clustering retail developments around transportation centers. Another session introduces basic concepts of banking and how projects get funded. (Maybe they can help the rest of us understand that concept.)
